DETAILS
Join us at at Burhnam Hall for a fundraising concert to benefit Akwesasne Freedom School and Sunray Elders Gathering. The Akwesasne Freedom School (AFS) emerged as a center of Mohawk cultural resurgence in 1979 and continues to play a critical role in revitalizing a rich and diverse language and culture within the community of Akwesasne. It is a model of self-determination and best practices in language and cultural revitalization. Sunray Meditation Society is an international spiritual organization dedicated to world peace and reconciliation. Our Peace Village is a sanctuary based upon the Cherokee Peace Villages. Akwesasne singer-songwriter Theresa Bear Fox has been making music in both Mohawk and English for twenty years. She says that she feels called to share her music to uplift her community and encourage more people to learn Mohawk. East Wind is Sunray's community drum. Their mission is to uplift spirits and bring joy. Language preservation is dear to their hearts; their songs are mostly in Cherokee language and other native languages. This concert will be held at Burnham Hall.
